What Can Music Do For Your Depression?

Image
Bismillah It has never been easier to listen to music. The distribution of music via Internet through smartphone apps or streaming services has dramatically changed the way people interact with music on a daily basis. Whether in the car, at work, at the gym, or while doing chores, people in general spend a lot of time listening to music.  New  consumer research  has shown that on average  68%  of smartphone owners stream and listen to music for at least 45 minutes each day. Another  survey  revealed that 2 in 3 people listen to music in the workplace with the intention to boost mood and creativity. The use of music for self-regulation of mood and emotions has been known for centuries, and has been the subject of scientific investigation over the past decades. With a growing understanding of the benefits of music on physical, psychological and psychosocial health, research about the application of music as a therapeutic tool in the treatment ...

How does music affect your mood?

Image
Bismillah According to recent research from Durham University in the United Kingdom and the University of Jyväskylä in Finland, published in PLOS ONE. Even sad music brings most listeners pleasure and comfort. Researchers have pondered the possible therapeutic and mood boosting benefits of music for centuries. Conversely, the study found that for some people, sad music can cause negative feelings of profound grief. The research involved three surveys of more than 2,400 people in the United Kingdom and Finland, focusing on the emotions and memorable experiences associated with listening to sad songs . An earlier study, published in the Journal of Consumer Research, found that people tend to prefer sad music when they are experiencing a deep interpersonal loss, like the end of a relationship. The authors of that study suggested that sad music provides a substitute for the lost relationship. They compared it to the preference most peopl...

Image
Bismillah When you have problem regarding to your mental health, you may think when you meet a doctor, they will give you a 'magic pill' or a bottle of something that may decrease for what ails you.  However, first and foremost, I believe in the “do no harm” motto when it comes to healthcare. To me, that means to first try the least invasive route to feeling your best as possible, like a  stress -preventing measure, special  diet , or exercise program before popping a “magic pill.” Music is often linked to mood. A certain song can make us feel happy, sad, energetic, or relaxed. Because music can have such an impact on a person’s mindset and well-being, it should come as no surprise that music  therapy has been studied for use in managing numerous medical conditions.  All forms of music may have therapeutic effects, although music from one's own culture may be most effective. In Chinese medical theory, the five internal organ and meridian systems are...
